KOJI TERADA Baritone Opeara Singer
Koji Terada was born in Japan, he started to learn singing at the age of 14 and was taught by Kazuko Onbe. He then entered the high school affiliated with the Tokyo College of Music and started studying with Kenji Mizuno.
After the graduation from the Tokyo College of Music, he is currently working towards his Master’s degree on opera course on a scholarship from the Guildhall School of Music (GSMD), where he continues to study with Prof. Rudolf Piernay.
He has also studied with Pierre Vallet, Mark Packwood, David Gowland, Dennis O'Neill CBE and Yasuo Horiuchi
Koji has won many prizes in major Japanese singing competitions, including First Prize in the 12th Japan Classical Music Competition, First Prize in All Japan Student Music Competition, First prize in the 11th Concert Marronnier 21, Second prize in the 4th Nagakute Opera Competition, Second prize in the 6nd Tokyo Music Concours and First Prize in Tokyo College of Music competition. On the International stage, he has received Third Prize in the 7th Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Opera Singers. 2011 Clonter Opera Prize and has got an audience prize. Winner 2012 Les Azuriales Opera competition. Second prize in the 85th Japan music competition, First Prize in the 37th Music Contest in Iizuka.
He has also received many scholarships and support, including Nomoto Scholarship 2002, Tokyo College of Music Scholarship student 2002-2005, Meiji Yasuda Quality of Life Culture Foundation 2004/05, Mr.Haruo Miki, Rome Music Foundation Scholarship 2007-2011, Koji was very grateful for the generous support of Mr.David Hamilton 2009/10 and Kobler Trust.
His opera appearances include Schaunard (La Bohème, cover and sung in concert production) in the Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-juku Project V; Title-role of "Le nozze di Figaro" in the Saito Kinen Festival (highlights) and the Tokyo College of Music 100th Anniversary Opera; Fiorello and Ufficiale (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) in the Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-juku Project VI which toured in China and Japan, and Dancaïre (Carmen, cover and sung in concert production) in the Seiji Ozawa Ongaku-juku Project VIII.
On the concert platform, he has sung in "New stars of St. Petersburg" in Russia, "Fountain of Love" with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, "Yuliya Lezhneve & Koji Terada Duo Concert", "the Tochigi-ken Symphony Orchestra Special Concert", Count Gil (Susanna’s secret) with the New Japan Philharmonic in concert production, "Great Music Concert" and given recitals in Japan.
Most recently, he has performed Le Baron (Chérubin), Arsenio(Spinalba), Vicar (Albert Herring), Marquis de la Force (Dialogues des Carmelites) and Robert (Iolanta) at the GSMD, Marcello (La Bohème) in the British Youth Opera and as a soloist in Orff’s Carmina Burana at the Barbican Hall.
